| Although many of these items are very obvious, we have found that while vacationing on an Unspoiled Island, the one thing that can spoil a great vacation is not having a few basic items at hand. We would like to help you pack some essentials. |
| The old adage that is defined by the saying, "bring the umbrella and it won't rain" seems to work in the Caribbean; even with the Island showers that are part of just about every UnspoiledIsland trip. This list breaks our own "rule", as we are not suggesting that you bring an umbrella; as you will find most Resorts and Hotels have them available if you should need one. In keeping with our list theme, however, we have used the word S-H-O-W-E-R-S to help you remember the essentials. |
| So here's a simple checklist of things we suggest you bring for every traveler; for some we suggest a spare for each individual: |
| S |
unscreen; bring both sun-block and sunscreen, with various application methods. The founder of UnspoiledIslands has found the spray to be an essential item to protect against scalp burn. |
| H |
ats; good souvenir purchases, but bring two that truly provide protection from the sun, including your ears. Hats with cords to keep them from flying into the water is best; otherwise, you will most surely be using the spare! |
| O |
ptical; two pairs of sunglasses, and spare contact lenses, as well as any prescription glasses, are essential. Sunglasses are one item that still demand a premium price when "on-island". Polarized lenses are best for any water sport, and although it is not the most fashionable, larger lenses provide more comfort and protection in the Caribbean sun. |
| W |
et wallet; there are many types of waterproof wallets, and small dry bags. We have found a few fanny packs that provide excellent water protection. In fact, when you book your vacation with us, you will receive a splash resistant fanny pack. |
| E |
vening wear: even in the most rustic of eco-locations, it is nice to have one shirt with a collar, and a pair of nice shorts. We recommend convertible pants, shorts with zip on legs, just in case you find a four or five star restaurant that requires slacks. Some do, and surprisingly are on the most rustic islands. These establishments usually have the best cuisine for that special night out! |
| R |
epellant; another nearly unavoidable part of the Caribbean experience is the bugs. We have found that Skin So Soft is truly the best bug repellant for all ages. |
| S |
norkel equipment and Swim suits; although almost every snorkel and dive operator will provide a mask, snorkel, and fins, we highly recommend bringing your own from home. Go to a dive shop and get fitted with a quality mask, and swim fins. This will take out a step, and relieve you from the nuisance of having to select used equipment, and get fitted every time you decide to snorkel. You also can't have too many swimsuits, we recommend at least three per vacationer. Nothing worse than putting on a wet swim suit! |
